The renovation of public lighting in the Municipality of Cenicero has achieved a 75% reduction in annual energy consumption

The municipality of Cenicero, in the region of La Rioja, has undertaken a complete renewal of its public lighting system through an Energy Services Company (ESE) under a 13-year contract.

Cenicero represents yet another example of a municipality whose public lighting system had become a risk to both the safety of its residents and the environment, while also placing a heavy financial burden on the municipal budget.

Following the technical study developed by EnergyTAS, which identified the municipality’s key needs — including the replacement of more than 700 luminaires with LED technology and the renewal of control panels with remote management capability — both EnergyTAS and the Town Council agreed that the project should be executed through an ESE model.

According to Carlos Cifuentes,

“Working with an ESE means centralizing all responsibilities in a single company that both manages and finances the project, assuming all technical and financial risks.”

For this reason, the Municipality of Cenicero can rest assured knowing that the work will remain in expert hands for the full 13-year duration of the contract — and, importantly, at zero cost to the Town Council.

A key factor in the decision was energy efficiency.
The municipality has now achieved optimized energy consumption, ensuring proper visual comfort without compromising the environment.

CO₂ emissions have been reduced by XXXX tons, thanks in part to the remote management system implemented in the control panels. This system not only reduces light pollution, but also optimizes electrical consumption for each control cabinet.

The resulting energy savings translate into an annual financial saving of XXX euros for the municipality.

The replacement of 736 luminaires and several lighting poles in poor condition has already been completed, along with the renewal of all control panels.

From now on, SITELEC will be responsible for maintenance, monitoring any potential incidents and covering possible acts of vandalism or technical failures that may arise.

Throughout the process, EnergyTAS has accompanied the ESE, highlighting the high quality of execution and project management that comes from working with a single company responsible for the entire operation.

As a result, Cenicero has become a model example of a municipality that made the right choice — and is already reaping the benefits from the very beginning.
